There is not much here but it might help you out. The problem i found was trying to get *any* software for the PET online, there just aint that much kicking about, especially compared to the VIC20 and the C64.
Other problems are that a fair chunk of the software posted online that you do find is in 'disk image' format rather than 'tape' or single program files, and you quickly discover that getting software on to your shiney new PET becomes more difficult than you first thought.
What you do find is in .PRG and .D64 formats which is perfect for emulators, less so for restoring back to audio cassette to use with your PET. There are utilities that help you convert back to audio but lets say my mileage was less than advertised.
WAVtoPRG worked well enough in converting from the few .PRG files that you can find but the various apps to convert .D64 to .PRG for .WAV conversion, less so.
All these apps are old Windows apps, which if you are a Mac user like me, may causes some problems, many are also DOS apps, which is just painful for most!
One other issue of course is that not all PET software will work on all PETs. Some may work on original ROM version PETs but not others, some then may work on the 3000 series, or perhaps the 4000 series but not the other way around; and then there is the 80 column 8000 series and the fact that much of the program graphics can get screwed up when 40 column stuff runs on an 80 column machine, well... you know... sometimes anyway.
You gotta love old machines!
My machine is the 8032. And with that, having some sort of software doo-hicky that could turn my 80 column screen into the more standard 40 column screen used by most software would be good.
And indeed - here it is -(50hz.wav) - it of course may not work with everything, but its working with a fair amount of the software that i have thrown at it. Stick it at the start of each of your program tapes!
Oh, one final thing; not all the files have been 'tested', but the 'process' has, so they should all be fine. Download the files and make your tapes. I didn't have a tape deck with 'audio in' so i had to make an audio CD on the computer then play that through a tape/CD combo and record my tape from there. Clunky as hell but it worked. However something is stripped from the files and they dont seem to have file names in the headers. They do work though.
Remember these are all audio files - Just make the tape - Have fun!
Oh, one final final thing here is an old review of the machine i have from BYTE magazine 1982.
Cosmic Cosmiads A Galaxians type game.
PET PACK treasure trove Four games - 3D Tic-Tac-Toe / Rotate / Hunt the Wumpus / and Luner Lander. You will need the 40 Column switch app above, to run anything other than Wumpus.
Cursor No2 A nearly full rip of Cursor Tape Magazine No2 from Aug 1978.
40 Column screen for all, except MAD. Put in some words and get a MAD story! Yup before 8bits had ALICE as an AI toy you had this.
Also here is a racing game and a 'snake' type game. Both good fun.
Cursor No18 Another rip of a Cursor Tape Magazine, this time No18 from March 1980 and all the files are there.
40 Column screen for all, but Dromeda (graphics demo) runs well enough without.
Also here is a Hi-Res graphics demo thing. Joust - two guys on horses, Weather - helps you with your barometer readings, we all have one, right? And Sheep, an erm... sheep herding game!
This cursor rip has been tested. Tape convert to digital then convert to cassette again, for test loading on an Actual PET. All works at my side.
Four more CURSOR TAPES coming soon! (Well Jan / Feb 09)
